They are supposed to be very accurate, but everything has it’s flaws. You should hear back from them on Monday if you go Saturday, and they will call you most likely.
Depends upon whether the doctor has his own lab to do the test, or if he sends the blood out to a lab to get the test done, as well as if the lab is open on a Saturday.
With our RE, they had testing facilities (that either they owned, or a partner lab in the same building). If you had blood drawn before 10am, you found out the results before the end of the day. If blood was drawn after 10, you found out the results the next day.
With the OB/GYN, he sends the tests out and you never find out until the next business day.
As to accuracy, with the exception of major screwups by the lab (i.e. RARE), the blood test will always be accurate at determining how much pregnancy hormone is in your system. Beyond that, the results can be open to interpretation. For example, if you get a count of 15, that means there is some HCG pregnancy hormone in your system, but that’s neither a positive or a negative (below 5 is negative, above 25 is positive). You might be testing early and HCG levels will soon be in the “positive” range, or you might have suffered a miscarriage and the HCG levels are dropping.
But for MOST women getting a blood test, they will usually fall below the 5 mark or above the 25 mark.
