How early should my girlfriend take a blood pregnancy test according to these dates?

4

The first day of her last period was on Tuesday, July 17th.

My girlfriend's cycles usually last an average of 28 days, so she most likely ovulated on Monday, July 30th.

The last day of the period was also the same day we had sex (which is the day we're testing for -- we haven't had sex since then) - Saturday, July 21st.

I called a local clinic and they were very confident that since it is currently August 1st (10 days after "conception"), the blood test would be accurate. I have also confirmed this with WebMD, and numerous other sites that back up this claim.

However, I see a lot of people still claiming that even with a blood test, you must "wait a week after your missed period", or X days past ovulation -- what's up with that?

Can somebody please explain?
Hey everybody,

Thank you for your answers so far. I just want to re-state one thing, however:

My question is for a BLOOD pregnancy test (done at a clinic, by a doctor) - not a urine test you'd by at the drug store. I know it's possible to test a lot earlier with a blood test.

I’ve always heard ’7 to 10 days after conception’

if she ovulated yesterday, there is no way she could have a positive result now.. also if she ovulated yesterday and you only had sex on the 21st, there is probably no way she is pregnant either.. sperm cannot survive 9 days in there.

for future reference, you test 14 days after she ovulates. or in other words, the day she is expecting to get her period next.

Ok if she ovulated on the 30 july (she must have a long cycle if this is the case because most women ovulate about 14 days after the first day of their period, but thats ok its possible) which would be roughly the time of conception then she should be able to test/blood test about 10-14days (2 weeks) after that, which would be pretty close to her ‘missed period’. So 9th august onwards, assuming she actually ovulated at the calculate time and right on time. There is no way if she ovulated 30 july she would show up as pregnant now because implatation wouldn’t have happened yet, so no hcg would be being produced yet to show up on tests. Also sperm only lasts about 3 days inside so if the last time you had unprotected sex was 21 july then she’s unlikely to be prego if she ovulated on the 30 july. Hope i’ve helped, Good luck!

Okay, from what I know, if you look at the pregnancy test packages, it will tell you the rate of accuracy. The tests can be done up to 5 days before the missed cycle, but the closer to the date the cycle is to start, the more accurate the test will be.

For example, with my current pregnancy, I was having morning sickness symptoms and very tired 1.5 weeks before I was due to start my next cycle. My husband finally convinced me to go ahead and test, about 6 days before my next cycle. The results were very faint, but the positive result was there. I retested again a few days later and the “positive” line was darker.

I would recommend that you test a few days before the next cycle is to start. Most packages come with 2 tests. If the result is negative, but she doesn’t start her cycle, test again.
