How does a fertility monitor or ovulation test know if you are ovulating?

2

What is it that causes the test result that you are ovulating? Can there be false positives? The reason I ask is that I have used an ovulation test before and it said that I was ovulating, but we've been TTC for 6 months and still no pregnancy. So, I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong.

A surge in LH hormone. False positives are unlikely unless you have hormonal problems where you have surges in the LH.

There is nothing wrong with the tests, you are just not getting pregnant, don’t stress over this, this is normal, it can take a year to get pregnant.

It checks for your LH surge, which prompts the egg to be released. You can have an LH surge (positive test) and still no ovulate though. It doesn’t happen a lot, but it is possible. Also, remember that even with perfect timing, you still only have a 20-25% chance of conceiving in a given month.
