Could a blood pregnancy test be wrong?

5

I was in the ER this past weekend due to an unrelated problem, they took blood work. They tested for pregnancy because I needed a CT. The test was negative. Could they have tested too early for detection or is a blood test 100% conclusive? I still have symptoms of pregnancy and my period is 5 days late. Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks for the comments. I guess it was just wishful thinking...oh well, try again next month. Thanks.

Pretty sure that you canot get a false negative with a blood test. (Maybe if RIGHT after conception, so no implantation thus no hormones yet – that is a pretty small window, though and at 5 days late, would not be an issue.) I am no doctor, though.

If your period is 5 days late chances are the test was accurate. HCG shows up in your blood sooner than it can turn a HPT positive. I have known people to get a positive blood test at 9 dpo before but then take a sensitive HPT and it show up negative and they were pregnant.

Apparently the blood tests can be wrong but it is very rare. I thought I was pregnant even after the blood test said I wasn’t because my period was three weeks late but it eventually arrived so the test was accurate. You’re almost definitely not pregnant.

The likelihood of a pregnancy blood test being wrong is extremely low. Your period could be late if you are not well, run down and anxious. Good luck – hope you get you wish soon!

blood tests are supposed to be 100% accurate that is right, now the chances of this happening is one in probably a billion, i had a friend
who was 2 weeks late tested for pregnancy negative, 4 weeks late tested again for pregnancy negative, 6 weeks late tested for pregnancy positive, i can’t tell you exactly why this happened but it did
