Can a blood pregnancy test come out positive after only 12 days?

5

My boyfriend got back from Florida on Sept. 14th, we did it of coarse... anyway it is now Sept. 26 and we have been doing it ALOT in between those days. Well alot more than usual anyway because he hasnt been back for that long. I just got back from the hospital, and I had a blood test and it said positive, well he said it might not be right because sometimes blood tests come back positive but they really arent and he did it again and it came up negative.. he told me that urine tests are better and that i should go to the health department.. well what I am wondering is if it is even POSSIBLE for it to show up after 12 days. And maybe it did that because it is too soon? Could this be why? I am just sooooo confused! Help!

First of all, are you trying to get pregnant? If not, use protection. But with new technology, I believe there are tests that can show you are pregnant that early. In fact, I think there is one over-the-counter one that says it can. Most OTC’s are for testing urine.

OK, this is how it works:

Count 14 days from the FIRST day of your last menstrual cycle. (First day of cycle is day one.) It’s very possible to become pregnant on days 13 through 15. That’s when a normal woman ovulates and can become pregnant. This is what I would do: Take a home pregnancy test, but wait until at least a week before your menstrual cycle should begin. Use a test that has the lines, not the ones that tell you “pregnant” or “not pregnant.” If you see ANY line, no matter how faint, you ARE pregnant. You can’t have a false positive with the home pregnancy tests. You can get a false negative, but never a false positive. If you test now, I doubt you will have enough pregnancy hormone in your urine for the test to pick it up. Wait at least another week. Hope this helps. Good luck!

A blood pregnancy test can come back positive one day after implantation, which would be day 21 of a cycle (day 1 being the day menstruation starts). Ovulation occurs usually around day 14, and it takes about 7 days for the fertilized egg to reach the uterus for implantation. So, if you had sex around the time of ovulation (say on Sept 15), your pregnancy blood test could be positive 7 days later. Sometimes pregnancy tests are wrong, but not often. There are more false negative tests than false positive tests.Blood pregnancy tests are more sensitive than urine pregnancy test, thus blood testing is more accurate than urine tests.
Go to the health department for a morning urine pregnancy test, or buy one at local pharmacy. Morning urine is more concentrated so do it when you get up for the best results.

For all I’ve heard, blood tests are more accurate than urine tests and they can be done earlier. But even urine tests can react to the pregnancy hormone as early as the 10th day after conception – it happened to me. So my advice, wait a couple of days and take a home pregnancy test. Or just wait and see if your period comes. If it’s late, take a home pregnancy test.

Blood preg test are most sensitive that urine. They can detect HcG 10 days post conception. Urine tests are not better than blood because in order for you to get a good specimen for a urine test, it must be a first morning void. Because that Hcg collects in your bladder at night and fades over the course of the day.
