What are the signs of being pregnant with twins? Any at home tests?
Hey there, my partner and I are 7 weeks pregnant, due August 19th. Our first appointment is the 12 but I have suspicion that she is pregnant with twins. She is already showing, can feel flutters and is way more nauseous then the 1st baby. (And the 1st baby was bad! She lost 30 lbs in morning sickness.) We are anxious to find out before the 12th, any at home tests or possibility to find out before then through signs of pregnancy?

Unfortunately, the only test you can do for twins is an ultrasound. :-/ Sorry..
Sure sounds that she is carrying more then one (I know someone who is having twins that had the same symptoms) But the only way i know you can tell for sure is a ultra sound and the heart beat monitor. You may be able to tell with the at home heart beat monitor that they have out now although i m not sure who makes it i know you can buy it in the baby section at walmart. if you hear an echo it could mean twins. Best of luck and i hope she feels better ! Oh and for the morning sickness most maternity shops carry morning sickness suckers they don’t taste bad and they work!
There are no tests. You will just have to wait for the ultrasound… Good luck! But, just a heads up.. Im 12 weeks pregnant and Ive been way, way sicker with this pregnancy then with my first. And, theres only one in there. At 7 weeks, that’s pretty early to feel flutters, honestly. I dont think you would feel them at 7 weeks if there were a whole litter in there. The baby is only as big as it is at 7 weeks so the likeliness of feeling one, two, or three is the same. You wont feel it until you are further along. Its probably gas shes feeling. That, or those babies are still very small.
…the only way to determine if there is more than one fetus in the uterus is through ultrasound. Pregnancy tests will only detect the pregnancy hormone in your body and let you know whether you are pregnant or not. There is no way a pregnancy test can tell you for sure whether or not you are carrying twins or more.
Nope, no home tests. You can get a quantitative hCG test, but even then it will just tell you what your hCG is and that is not absolute for multiples vs singletons. Just wait for the US.
BTW – I am currently 24 weeks with twins and belong to a twin group. TONS of people ask about suspected twins due to stronger symptoms and practically none of them actually are pregnant with twins. On the other hand, I personally had no more pregnancy symptoms than I did with my singletons (which is to say, I had NO pregnancy symptoms) and there are two in there. Every pregnancy is different.
Also BTW – at 7 weeks along, the baby is the size of a blueberry and is just developing muscles and a face and all that. The bones are not hard enough and the muscles not developed enough for you to feel anything. What she is feeling is known as ‘phantom’ baby movements. Many women that have been pregnant feel those and it is most likely just digestion movement. Even if there are more babies in there, they still need to get big enough and strong enough and their bones need to get hard enough for actual baby movements to be felt. Anywhere between 16 and 20 weeks would be a normal time frame.
Anyway, congrats on the pregnancy!! I hope all goes well.
There was no sign with me, except we saw both heartbeats at 6 weeks. I was not sick. I was very skinny and did not begin to show until 14 weeks. That is also the time I felt movement. My hormone levels were slightly high but there is not way to tell for sure until the ultrasound.
